Biography

Surgical training at the Department of Surgery, Leiden University Medical Centre, professor of gastrointestinal surgery in 1992. He moved to the UMC Utrecht in 1994, head of the Department of Surgery, from 2004 to 2009. Vice-president of the Committee to completely revise the Medical Curriculum UMCUtrecht.

Founder and past-president of the Netherlands Society for Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Dutch Pancreatitis Study Group (2003) and has been the president until 2012.

Fields of interest: gastrointestinal motility, pancreatitis

Moved to the Radboudumc Nijmegen in November 2009 to become the head of the Department of OR and to found the Centre for Evidence Based Surgery and MITeC, (Medical Innovation and Technology expert Centre) a joint venture of the Radboudumc in Nijmegen, the University of Twente and the Technical University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

He published around 350 peer reviewed articles and supervised around 30 PhD theses.
